Yes, yes and yes! Engagement photos in the snow can be absolutely beautiful- it just takes a little planning and patience. Winter in Southern Oregon brings a kind of magic you just can’t replicate any other time of year—crisp air, soft natural light, and the dreamy chance of snow-dusted landscapes. If you're considering winter engagement photos, you’re in for something uniquely beautiful. As a local engagement photographer based here in Ashland, I love helping couples create images that feel warm, cozy, and full of personality—even on the chilliest days!

Here are my top five tips for making your engagement photos in the snow as stunning and comfortable as possible:

1. Dress Warm (But Make It Cute!)

Layers photograph beautifully. Think cozy sweaters, scarves, long coats, and boots. Neutral tones and rich winter colors—like forest green, wine, or cream—look incredible against winter scenery. Bring hand warmers or a blanket to snuggle in between shots! Maybe some hot cocoa in cute mugs too!

2. Plan for Shorter Days

Winter light is gorgeous, but there’s less of it. I always recommend scheduling sessions earlier in the afternoon so we can take advantage of the soft, glowy light before sunset, and even earlier if were in the mountains.

3. Lean Into the Mood

Winter lends itself to romantic, intimate photos. Warm up together with a cup of coffee, wrap yourselves in a blanket, or play in the snow if the weather cooperates. The season’s charm really shines when you embrace it.

4. Wear the Right Footwear

Whether we’re walking on snow, wet grass, or icy sidewalks, sturdy shoes make all the difference. Cute boots are a good choice!

5. Keep Moving

Movement keeps you warm and adds life to your photos. Walking, twirling, hugging, laughing—these capture natural moments and help you forget how cold it is.

Top 3: Engagement Photos in Winter Locations

1. Mt. Ashland

If you’re dreaming of snow-filled photos, Mt. Ashland is the place. The sweeping mountain views and snowy forest backgrounds create magical, high-impact images perfect for winter lovers.

2. Downtown Jacksonville

Charming, historic, and full of warm textures, Jacksonville looks absolutely picturesque in winter. Think brick walls, string lights, cozy storefronts, and small-town character everywhere you turn.

3. North Mountain Nature Park (Ashland)

For couples wanting something natural and peaceful, North Mountain Nature Park offers winter greenery, pathways, tall grasses, and beautiful soft light even in colder months.

Winter is an amazing time to create engagement photos that feel romantic, cozy, and unforgettable.
