Tips For Taking Photos With Your Dog

As you may know, I am a huge dog lover. My husband and I have a 4-year old Bernese Mountain Dog named Zeus. He is the sweetest, furriest, sensitive, silly dog. From the moment we got him, he has always had a calm nature and loved his treats- so it's not too tough to get a good photo of him most of the time. I absolutely love it when clients bring their dog to their session. I have done family and engagement sessions with them. Recently my friends got a Bernese puppy named Apollo. Apollo is actually my dog's great nephew. I got to take their family photos last month at a park near their house. My dog Zeus also jumped in on the fun. Here are some tips for making it a bit easier when bringing your dog with you to a session. Enjoy the cutest puppy ever photos!

Tips

  1. Always make sure the location you are bringing your fur baby is dog friendly

  2. Bring lot's of treats and water if it's going to be warm out

  3. Bring their collar instead of a harness, so it doesn't show in the photos

  4. Have a friend or family member come along to hold the dog in photos that will not include them and to have them distract the dog during the photos

  5. Bring a squeaky toy if your dog can be distracted by it for looking at the camera

  6. Communicate to your photographer if there is anything in particular they should know about your dog such as if they shouldn't be around other dogs, or if they can't do much walking because of age or a health issue. The more I know, the easier it will be to get a great shot!
